When we discover something that we really want and want to have immediately, then it usually comes from … right, New York! Felt surrender in the metropolis New trends every second. But when they finally arrive in Germany, the whole thing in NYC will long be out again. So in order to always be up-to-date, it is advisable to get one good contact in the Big Apple to increase. Our New York correspondent Deborah Landshut keeps us up to date in the future. Together with her French bulldog Barney Stinson, she is now conquering New York. So if anyone knows what’s hot, it’s YOU. It was not for nothing that Deborah was already deputy editor-in-chief of TEASER magazine and already worked as a freelance writer for Gala.de, Cover and Co. From now on, no trend will pass us by – and of course you will not either! This time it is about the comparison between her home Hamburg and her adopted home New York.
New York is great. And big, not necessarily well-behaved. But the latter is Hamburg. I love both cities in a special way: My down-to-earth roots are in Hamburg, my fluttering heart belongs to New York. It is all the nicer that I can enjoy the best of both worlds through my job and the back and forth commuting. But that also means that I have the unfiltered comparison – and with it a reality check every now and then.
NYC vs. Hamburg
After spending the first few months of the year in New York, being at Fashion Weeks for Très Click and Vogue, interviewing the most famous tattoo artist Bang Bang, spotting the city’s hot spots, gnawing the best food in New York in-restaurants and myself After the nights behind the toughest doors in the city have been beating my ears, I’ll be back in Hamburg for a while. Broke, but happy – and on withdrawal. Withdrawal from New York.
The city that never sleeps can be quite exhausting. The restless vibe of the city carries over to its residents. Very few New Yorkers are “chill” – except for those who smoke weed all day. And yes, in New York there is a reason why there is a smell of grass on every street corner. I decided to treat myself to my relaxation in Hamburg. Even if my home is a big city: You will know at the latest that you are in Hamburg if you arrive on a Sunday and Monday is a public holiday. And supermarkets and restaurants are closed, everything around you is silent – Welcome Back! But: Isn’t that what I love so much about Hamburg?
Hamburg has a lot that New York doesn’t have. Quiet streets, green spaces that you are actually allowed to enter, the supermarket cashier who knows your name and with whom you can chat while paying, and also my friends, who I can’t pack into my suitcase every time. I love walking through Eppendorf with my dog Barney without a leash, leaving him free in front of the shop without fear when I get the juiciest Franzbrötchen from the Hansebäcker, and it is priceless with my friends at the regular Italian, in the Lentini, for several Sinking roses while Barney sits in front of the restaurant kitchen and is personally fed ham and salami by the chef. These are moments when you know that you are at home.
