Snapchat is packed with amazing features that users find interesting and fun to use. In addition to being unique, these features reflect the platform’s strong focus on user privacy. One of those cool features is the way snapshots and chat work. Messages and snaps sent and received on Snapchat disappear after the recipient views them. They are deleted immediately or after 24 hours of being viewed, depending on the settings set by the users.
However, this unique feature may confuse you if you notice that some messages have not disappeared even after viewing them. The only way to prevent messages from disappearing automatically is to save them. So, if a message isn’t deleted even though you haven’t saved it, it’s natural to get confused.
But we are here to lift the curtain of confusion from your mind. Read on to learn why some Snapchat messages may not disappear even without saving.
Why don’t some Snapchat messages disappear even if they’re not saved?
As you probably know, Snapchat deletes messages and snaps once all recipients have seen them. This setting is an interesting feature because the platform does not provide any option to disable the automatic deletion process.

Anytime you send a snap or message to anyone on Snapchat, they are, by default, meant to be deleted once the recipient sees them. Or, as Snapchat says, delete is default on snapchat.
However, sometimes you may notice that some messages do not disappear even when other messages have. There can be several reasons why this can happen:
Reason 1: the message has not been seen by all recipients
For a message to disappear on Snapchat, the only condition is that all recipients have seen it.
If you’re chatting with only one person in a one-on-one chat, the message is deleted once the other person has seen it. However, in group chats, your message will disappear only when all group participants have seen it, or if a week has passed since you sent it.
In any case, your message will only disappear if all recipients have seen it.
Reason 2: The recipient saved the message
There is only one way to prevent a message from disappearing permanently: by saving it. But if you haven’t saved a message, the other person might have saved it, so the message isn’t gone yet.
You cannot unsave a message if someone else in the chat has saved it. Any chat participant can save a message and prevent it from disappearing from the chat.
