Dr. Reda Ibrahim, consultant for chest diseases and allergies, and director of the Chest Center in Bulaq Abu Al-Ela, said that it is not preferable to obtain Flu vaccine Seasonal when you have a cold or flu, and it is best to get it when you have fully recovered and your body is stronger and your immunity is better.
He explained, in a statement to “Youm 7”, that if you missed the seasonal influenza vaccination during the months of October and November, you should get it as soon as possible now, because getting the vaccination late is better than not getting it at all.
He explained that the annual influenza vaccine protects against influenza infection by 70% or more, especially since it is compatible with the influenza virus strains that change every year, adding that the vaccine helps reduce the severity of symptoms and complications if you become infected.
According to the New York Times website, the flu season extends from October to May, and usually reaches its peak in February, and getting vaccinated at any time during the season can prevent you from contracting the disease. It takes about two weeks after vaccination for your immune system to produce Enough antibodies to protect against influenza.
Children ages 6 months to 8 years who are being vaccinated for the first time need two doses, about a month apart, to get full antibody protection.
It is worth noting that influenza vaccines are designed to protect against four different strains of influenza that scientists expect to be dominant each season.
