Skincare routines can be quite complicated at times. It is therefore logical that we want to try to simplify it as much as possible. In the morning you could do this by combining two products: namely your sunscreen and your day cream. But is this actually a good idea? We’ll figure it out.

The purpose of sunscreen and day cream
Sunscreen and day cream both have their own purpose. We use sunscreen to protect our skin from the sun. This prevents your skin from burning, which is of course extremely annoying. In addition, you protect your skin against internal damage that can later lead to skin aging and even skin cancer. Protecting our skin from the sun’s rays is therefore very important. We would even recommend applying sunscreen to your skin every day, even in winter and on days with bad weather.
We use day cream to hydrate our skin. Our skin needs this to stay supple and to prevent dehydration. In addition, dehydrated skin can lead to acne. This happens when your skin starts to produce more sebum due to the dryness. This large amount of sebum clogs your pores and then you get pimples. This mainly happens in people with oily skin. This shows that using day cream is also very important for people with this skin type.
Can you combine it?
Our short answer to this question is no. As we explained above, both products have an important job. While some facial sunscreens also moisturize, they often don’t moisturize enough. Using only sunscreen can therefore cause your skin to become dehydrated in the long term. This can result in dry spots and scabs. Applying make-up over dry skin is also no fun. It doesn’t stay on very well and can be harder to fade.
Only using sunscreen and skipping moisturizer unfortunately has no positive consequences for your skin. But exchanging your sunscreen for day cream is also not wise. Day creams nowadays increasingly contain SPF, and this is certainly a good development. Only it is often only a low amount of SPF such as factor 30 or lower. This is not enough protection for many people. In addition, you must also apply sunscreen several times a day to provide the right protection for your skin. Applying day cream several times a day can lead to clogged pores.
We therefore recommend using both products and not skipping them. In addition, we recommend adding a vitamin C serum to your morning routine to strengthen the protection of your SPF. Finally, cleansing the face is always a must, both in the morning and in the evening. That way you get the most out of your skincare.
