Can we create our own car in Codemasters’ WRC game?

According to some rumors, we can also use a custom rally car in the field.

The WRC license has been overturned in several places. First Evolution Studios and Sony made five games for PS2 (the first was later known in connection with DriveClub on PlayStation 4), then a few years later the Italian Milestone made four games (of which the third, offering a career plus arcade modes, was the best), then Kyloton and Nacon acquired the World Rally Championship license. The latest game in the series, WRC Generations, will arrive with them in October, but Electronic Arts will follow them, as in 2020 Codemasters, which they have meanwhile acquired, has been awarded the rights since 2023. (Or recovered it .. . because a significant portion of Evolution’s developers went to Codemasters Cheshire!)

Codemasters and rallies have been inseparable since the late 1990s. The DiRT series that emerged from Colin McRae Rally, and especially DiRT Rally within it, was incredibly authentic, so they really know their stuff. The Insider Gamingen we can read that in addition to the supposedly fantastic physics, you can also build your own car and you can drive this vehicle in different game modes. It is up to us what he will be good at and what he will be weak at; we can choose transmission, engine, exhaust, differential or transmission. We can design the interior and exterior of the car according to our taste.

The cars are classified into sixteen different classes (think Strength levels here). WRC, WRC2, H1 FWD (front wheel drive car), F2 Kitcar – just a few examples. As a result, Codemasters and Electronic Arts can come up with a fairly consistent game (true, the latter may have had problems elsewhere in racing games – storm clouds are piling up on Need For Speed, which was developed by Criterion and whose development was temporarily suspended due to Battlefield 2042, we wrote about it the other day).

Of course, this isn’t official yet, but there’s a good chance we’ll see Codemasters’ new WRC game in 2023. This may already skip the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
