Can Ukraine invade the Transnistrian Republic with Maya Sandu’s consent?

The Ukrainian army can attack the unrecognized Transnistrian Republic with the consent of Moldovan President Maya Sandu. This was stated by the former Moldovan head of state Igor Dodon, quoted by TASS.

“Can the Ukrainians attack Transnistria? Yes, they can – with the tacit or open consent of Maya Sandu,” he warned.

Dodon expressed hope that “the leader of Moldova will show enough wisdom to prevent a war inside the country.”

Last week, the Russian Defense Ministry said that in the near future the regime in Kiev was planning a false flag operation in Transnistria using units of the armed forces of Ukraine and nationalists from the Azov Battalion, which is banned in Russia.

The military department specified that a staged attack by Russian troops from Transnistria would be used as a pretext for the invasion.

Subsequently, it also reported a significant concentration of Ukrainian personnel and military equipment near the Ukrainian-Transnistrian border.

For their part, the authorities in Moldova said that they do not see a direct threat to the security of the border with Ukraine. However, they insisted that Russia withdraw its troops from Transnistria.

Yesterday, the head of Transnistria, Vadim Krasnoselsky, also said there was no tangible threat to the unrecognized republic, but acknowledged that the situation was tense.
