Can Type 2 Diabetes Patients Cure Totally?

JawaPos.com – A person with type 2 diabetes has blood sugar conditions above normal due to insulin resistance. Generally, type 2 diabetes is experienced by someone because of an unhealthy lifestyle and lack of exercise. The question is, can type 2 diabetes be cured?

This is because people generally know that diabetes patients are required to take medication for life. Or depending on the ‘import’ of insulin from outside. So there is an assumption that diabetes cannot be cured.

“Diabetes cannot be cured, what can be done is to control blood sugar, blood pressure, and lipid profile so that complications do not occur,” said the Endocrinologist from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia (FKUI / RSCM) Dr.dr.Budiman Darmowidjojo, SpPD-KEMD ( K) to JawaPos.com recently.

Because if blood sugar is not controlled, the patient is at risk of complications. Such as stroke, heart failure, kidney failure, and others.

“For recovery, it is still in research on stem cell and pancreas transplantation,” he said.

Then when diabetes patients should be intervened with drugs and insulin? Can’t it just diet and exercise?

“You can do it with diet if the insulin secretion from the pancreatic beta cells is still quite good, but plus exercise is the best,” said dr. Budiman.

According to dr. Budiman, oral medication intervention is necessary if lifestyle changes such as exercise and diet fail to control blood sugar. Insulin needs to be given when these methods have been done.

“Even the combination of 3 or more oral drugs but the HbA1C is still more than 9 percent,” said dr. Budiman.

Therefore, dr. Budiman suggested that you always maintain your body weight so that it remains at least normal. Exercise at least 150 minutes per week. And keep your calorie intake and adhere to the 3 J rule (amount of food / calories, type of food and schedule of meals).

“Take care of your health because it is Allah’s most expensive gift in this world,” he said.
