Can the Sharks make the playoffs?

After missing the playoffs for the first time since 2015 last year, the San Jose Sharks are hopeful of qualifying in 2021.

At least that’s the opinion of Captain Logan Couture.

“I think we have a team that will make the playoffs,” said Couture, quoted on the website of the National Hockey League (NHL). There is conviction in the locker room and within the organization. If we play the way we can, we’ll be there at the end of the season. ”

The challenge promises to be enormous for the Sharks, who find themselves in the same section as the Colorado Avalanche, the Vegas Golden Knights and the St. Louis Blues, among others. The Anaheim Ducks, Arizona Coyotes, Los Angeles Kings and Minnesota Wild complete this section.

Last row in the West

In 2019-2020, the Sharks finished last in the Western Conference with a 29-36-5 record by virtue of their 63 points in the standings in 70 games.

Despite this horrendous season, the San Jose roster couldn’t add an impact player through the draft as they traded their first pick of 2020 to the Ottawa Senators in the trade involving defenseman Erik Karlsson. The Senators instead took advantage of this selection, the third overall, to get their hands on German forward Tim Stutzle.
