VIVA – The World Health Organization (WHO) officially declares an Extraordinary Event (KLB) case hepatitis acute illness of unknown cause, on April 15, 2022. The cause of the disease is still unknown. Laboratory tests abroad have been carried out and hepatitis A, B, C, D and E viruses were not found to be the cause of the disease.

In the midst of acute mysterious cases that have occurred in a number of countries, recently the UK’s head of health revealed, maintaining dogs or consume paracetamol can trigger cases mysterious hepatitis in children. Quoted from the page The Sunofficial data show, 163 children in the UK have contracted the disease, with 11 children requiring liver transplants.

No child has died in the UK from the condition, and it is estimated that globally there are now more than 250 cases. Medics have now warned that cases of the disease are more common in households where there are dogs.

In the 92 cases across the UK, 64 positive cases occurred in children who came from families who raised dogs, according to data from the UK Health Safety Agency (UKHSA).

Medics are now exploring this link but highlight, this may be due to the high rate of dog ownership in the UK. It was also found, three quarters of respondents had mentioned using paracetamol. Fewer reported the use of ibuprofen and none reported the use of aspirin.

The prevalence of paracetamol use is thought to be consistent with guidelines for managing acute illness in children, experts say. Investigations into the condition included interviews with parents and questionnaires sent to affected families.
