Bridget Maasland wonders whether Marco Borsato’s career can still be saved now that the rumors of inappropriate behavior among young girls continue to persist. “Can he ever get out of here career wise?”
Until now, RTL Boulevard is the only TV program that discusses the rumors about Marco Borsato. Where the show section chose to share the content of the rumors last week keep quiet, it was first mentioned in yesterday’s broadcast that it would concern ‘very transgressive behaviour’. The ages of the alleged victims – 13 and 15 – remain unmentioned.
Boulevard over Marco
Presenter Bridget Maasland introduced the item yesterday as follows: “Despite the fact that Marco Borsato himself is currently quieter than ever, the rumor machine around the singer is running at full speed. He is accused of very transgressive behavior and completely withdraws.”
Voice-over Jeroen Kijk in de Vegte: “Unfortunately, most dreams are deception, because his positive flow will be overshadowed this autumn by rumors about perhaps very transgressive behaviour.”
spicy jokes
After the item, Bridget pointed out that most media do not explicitly mention the rumors about Marco, but there are jokes about it, such as Even Tot Hier. 2 million people watched it last weekend. “Yes, Rob, this kind of jokes at Even Tot Hier, is that to be expected if you don’t respond to anything?”
Rob Goossens: “Yes, those first stories about Marco are from two weeks ago. Those stories are extremely damaging to him and he hasn’t responded until now, but it seems that he did respond, because the collaboration with War Child suddenly went downhill and (…) the tour was canceled canceled.”
Take over direction
According to Angela de Jong, Marco’s urge to cancel almost resembles a disguised confirmation of the rumours. What does Rob think about that? “They all seem like reactions, but he hasn’t responded yet. Then others will take over from you and those are the jokers.”
Luuk Ikink: “I think we all feel – at least I have a little bit – a kind of discomfort talking about this, because we don’t really know what exactly is going on. That’s why we so desperately want a response from Marco, from: ‘Reply to this.’ It’s hard to talk about it.”
Been known for months
Rob then reveals that RTL Boulevard has known about the rumors for months. “When those stories came out two weeks ago, we looked at them and then made the decision not to mention them. But actually we made that decision months ago when we first heard those stories.”
It’s still rumours, said Rob. “These are stories that are very harmful to a Dutch citizen. That is newsworthy anyway, but it concerns stories that do not yet come from those directly involved, there is no hard evidence for it and also no police investigation or anything into it. That just makes it really hard to get that out here as a rumor.”
Marco remains silent
Boulevard also knows that everyone already knows exactly what those rumors are about? “Of course we also understand that the viewer at home can now use his phone to find out what is going on, but so far we cannot say that what can be found on the internet is true. Only when we have the feeling that we have the burden of proof, will we of course make that a bit more explicit.”
Luuk: “We called Marco’s management again today.”
Rob: “It seems like they don’t have their phone with them. They are completely out of reach and it becomes more painful every day, because the situation demands a response. So we all think we see reactions in the things that happen and in the meantime, of course, his image goes to the sharks day by day.”
Bridget fears career
Bridget wonders if Marco will ever be okay again. “Can he ever get out of here career wise?”
Rob: “In any case, if what is going around is not true, he must quickly come up with a good response. Even if it is true or somewhat true, I would always say: try to save what can be saved by clarifying what exactly is going on. It has become a difficult situation.”
