There is no limit to how long the war in Ukraine can go on and how many people will become victims during this time. This should be decided by diplomacy.

Former FBI Deputy Director (2016-2018) Andrew McCabe stated this in an interview with the support of the Kiev School of Economics, reports Forbes.

He noted that the colossal failure of the Russian military operations, the amazing resistance of the Ukrainians is amazing.

“I congratulate the Ukrainian leadership for their continued involvement in the diplomatic process, because the number one goal is a ceasefire and killing of Ukrainians. But when viewed through a diplomatic prism, it is difficult to understand what conditions would prompt the Kremlin to stop a military attack. He (Putin – ed.) it will be very, very difficult to return to his population with something that he cannot sell as a victory or a reason to start a war. At the same time, any of the achievements he seeks are unacceptable for the Ukrainian people,” he said. .

Diplomatically, this is incredibly difficult, and now even more complicated by the atrocities in the cities around Kyiv after the Russians left.

“But you must remain committed to diplomacy, because the fight to complete victory can take years. There is no limit to how long a conflict can go on and how many people will become victims in this time. But no matter how vague it may seem in the future, I trust your diplomacy. The Russians must understand that this will not lead to anything good for them in the short and long term,” the ex-FBI official added.

In his opinion, the threat from Russia does not decrease over time.

“The West is going through periods when we feel this threat more or less. It is easier for us because geographically we are located further. We are not on the border or on the battlefield, like the Ukrainians. And for this we are ashamed. Ukrainians constantly need to watch Russia, regardless what’s going on. Their propensity for aggression is really unlike any other nation we deal with around the world. So I don’t think it will ever go away,” McCabe concluded.

As UNIAN reported earlier, President Zelensky said that Russia forever lost Ukraine.
