Despite the protests against Israel’s participation, there are still massive votes for the country. “The music is certainly not always the only decisive element at the Eurovision Song Contest,” says Hendrickx.

“That has never really been the case. People mainly vote for a country, less for a song. Think, for example, of Ukraine two years ago. That country won with the largest televoting score ever in the history of the Eurovision Song Contest. They certainly did not have the best song, but won the public’s sympathy because of the war in their country.”
