Can id Software develop new Quake games? • Eurogamer.net

id Software is currently posting a dozen job openings at its Texas studio, fueling speculation that a new Earthquake level may be imminent.

Let’s face it – development studio advertisement not very newsworthy for developers. However, in this example, Zenimax stated several times that the new hires would “help create the iconic and long-standing first-person action shooter”, mentioning “science fiction and fantasy environments” – and that’s what got the whole thing a little excited. .

With Machine Games presumably leading the way at Wolfenstein and Avalanche at Rage, id Software only has a few options left for that “iconic action FPS” – Doom or Quake. And “science fiction and fantasy environments” are a better fit for Quake than Doom, not least because the latest Doom game was only released last year.

Of course, the timing was also right. We recently saw the release of an extended edition for its 25th anniversary, Quake 2 easily turning 25 next year, and with Microsoft acquired the company around this time last year, it is possible that the company’s IP portfolio has been updated. All we can do is record this as an enthusiastic rumor at this point, but I think it’s pretty interesting. Watch this room I think.

ICYMI, Quake’s 25th Anniversary Edition, released for PC and consoles back in August, recently received a free next-generation upgrade for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

As Matt explained at the time, the original Enhanced Edition – Quake, its two official expansions, and two additional expansions from Wolfenstein: The New Order Developer Machine Games – had been a very solid refresh for a quarter of a century. an old FPS classic, but the newly released “next gen” upgrade adds a little extra oomph for Xbox Series X/S and PS5 owners.

Once installed, both Xbox Series X/S and PS5 will run Quake at 120 frames per second and a maximum resolution of 4K. Xbox Play Anywhere functionality is included in the X/S series, while the PS5 receives DualSense Adaptive Trigger and built-in speaker support.

Horde Doom Eternal mode now available in new free update 6.66.
