1.

Can I get the vaccine if I don’t have health insurance?

A lawyer: Yes, everyone can get the vaccine with or without health insurance. The Federal Government allocated the necessary resources to acquire the vaccine.

2.

Does immigration status matter to be vaccinated?

A lawyer: No, you do not need any immigration status to receive the vaccine. Certain clinics may ask for a Social Security number, but it is not required. You do not have to provide the number if you do not have it.

3.

Is any identification required?

A lawyer: No, ID is not required. It is possible that certain hospitals ask for it, but you can provide an identification of your country, such is the case of the passport. (In several states they are asking for a document that shows where you live).

4.

Will my personal data be confidential?

A lawyer: The Government has been very clear that they will not share your personal identification with any agency, including ICE. They will not be able to use this information to apply immigration law.

5.

Does receiving the vaccine count as a public charge?

A lawyer: Not at all. The Government has been very clear that everything related to covid-19 will not count against it as a public charge; neither the treatment, nor the test, nor the vaccine. You can receive any vaccine or treatment with no effect on your green card process.

If you have problems getting the covid-19 vaccine due to your immigration status, The North Carolina Justice Center has the telephone line (919) 856-2178 to report complaints.
