Can I invite someone who was isolated to me?

Is it safe if I bring someone to my house who I know has strictly followed the rules for three weeks and has no symptoms? I have only had direct contact with my brother and sister-in-law for four weeks and also have no corona symptoms.

Inviting someone to your home always poses a certain risk of infection. According to the Federal Office of Public Health (BAG), the virus is mainly transmitted when there is closer contact (less than two meters) and longer contact. Just because someone has no corona symptoms does not mean that the person is not infected with the corona virus. According to the BAG, the disease is mild in most infected people. And there are also people who have no symptoms at all. For this reason, among other things, and because testing has so far not been carried out across Switzerland, it is difficult to make a statement about the number of infected people.

At yesterday’s media conference, Patrick Mathys, Head of the Crisis Management and International Cooperation Section at the BAG, mentioned the number of tests performed so far (approx. 250,000), the tests that passed positive (25,000) and the number of people who tested positive and had to be hospitalized (3000). In order to determine the effective number of sick people, there are various estimation models. Depending on the model calculation, there are between 100,000 and 300,000 people.

When answering your question, it is also important to take into account that the period between the infection and the appearance of the first symptoms according to the BAG is on average five days, but can take up to 14 days.

Even if the person you would like to invite to your home has strictly adhered to the BAG rules in the past three weeks, it cannot be ruled out that they may have contracted the virus and carried the virus – not even that you are infected yourself. Hannah Frei
