Can Gargling With Salt Water Cure Sprue?

Jakarta: Gargling with salt water is often thought to be healing sprue. Indeed, in society, especially in Indonesia, gargling with salt water is often considered a natural way not only for thrush but also to relieve sore throats.

“If you say salt water can treat canker sores, I don’t think so. Gargling with salt water is actually not a cure but relieves the symptoms of thrush, ”said dr. Rusmawati, Sp. PM from Mitra Keluarga Bintaro Hospital, in the Kalbe Webinar Media event “Distinguishing Common Sprue and Oral Cancer” on Friday, November 13, 2020.

According to dr. Rusmawati, there are some people who get quite large mouth sores and then rinse their mouths with salt water and feel a little more comfortable. ” However, gargling with salt water is not a cure, ”said dr. Rusmawati.

“To cure canker sores, of course we can use ointments or gels, which have anti-inflammatory properties to relieve the inflammation. If applied to thrush earlier or treated earlier, of course it can speed up the healing process, “said dr. Rusmawati.

“In the treatment of thrush, the principle that must be considered is that we have to deal with the symptoms and overcome the causes, for that in the treatment we must pay attention to the ideal sprue medicine made from natural ingredients,” said Vania Harista Product Manager of PT Kalbe Farma Tbk.

Some people also think that canker sores are caused by lack of vitamin C, so consuming vitamin C can prevent canker sores.

“Actually that is not true, but if the canker sores are caused due to a lack of vitamin C so taking vitamin C can make a quick recovery is actually more protective. And still need further research, “said dr. Rusmawati.

“In maintaining oral health, we can do it independently through the Sa-Mu-Ri (Check Your Own Mouth) movement which consists of several steps, namely washing your hands thoroughly, standing in front of a mirror, checking your upper and lower lips, checking your upper gums. and down, check the right and left cheeks, check the upper and lower tongue, check the upper and lower oral cavity, check the right and left sides of the tongue and check the agility, stiffness and movement of the tongue, ”concluded dr.Rusmawati.
