Jakarta –
Sacrificial meat is usually processed into people’s favorite dishes such as satay, tongseng, and soup. But not infrequently, people are haunted by the threat of high cholesterol after consuming processed sacrificial meat crazily.
Circulating assumption, cucumber can help lower cholesterol in the body. As a result, some people believe that eating cucumber after consuming processed sacrificial meat can prevent a series of bad effects from rising cholesterol levels.
Clinical nutrition specialist Dr. Putri Sakti, MGz, SpGK, AIFO-K, CBBF, straightened out, cucumber does have food substances that can control blood fat levels. However, cucumber does not necessarily lower cholesterol levels.
“But remember, it’s different from treating. We take hypertension medicine, it goes down right away,” said Dr. Putri when met by detik.com some time ago.
“So if cucumbers are the same as supplements, they are gradual. So you can’t eat satay and eat cucumbers at the same time to lower (cholesterol),” he continued.
In addition, cucumbers are rich in fiber which can absorb cholesterol levels in the blood. However, consuming cucumber does not guarantee that cholesterol levels are completely controlled.
“So it can’t be a standard, ‘if you eat cucumber, it’s certain that my cholesterol will be controlled, it’s certain that my blood pressure will drop’, not really,” said Dr. Putri.
dr Putri explained the best way to enjoy processed sacrificial meat without fear of being overshadowed by rising cholesterol levels. One way is to change the way you enjoy the dish.
“If you want to eat satay, don’t add a lot of spices, so we can still enjoy it. The portion is not excessive, then if there is fat, it must be removed,” he said.
Separately, clinical nutrition specialist Dr. Juwalita Surapsari, MGz, SpGK, explained that basically, eating cucumbers can be tried to lower cholesterol levels as many people believe.
But he warned, the risk of high cholesterol still exists if the consumption of cucumbers is still accompanied by an unhealthy diet. For example, often eat foods that are high in fat.
“If you only eat cucumbers but you still eat foods that are high (cholesterol), I don’t think there will be much effect,” explained Dr. Juwalita.
