The Russian attacks on the Ukrainian capital make the infrastructure vulnerable.
– Kyiv’s infrastructure could collapse at any moment, as Russia’s sporadic missile attacks combined with cold winter temperatures put increasing pressure on local authorities.
This is what Kyiv mayor Vitaly Klitschko says on Monday, according to the Reuters news agency. Klitschko is currently in Davos, Switzerland, where he is attending the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum.
– Can happen at any time
Kyiv has long accused Russia of deliberately attacking civilian infrastructure, as well as the civilian population.
– A collapse is not something we talk about, but it can happen at any time, says the mayor, while also stating that Kyiv only has 70 percent of the electricity supply.
– It is very cold in Ukraine now, so it is almost impossible to live without electricity and heating. The situation is critical. We are fighting to survive, he continues.
Vitalij Klitschko is at the meeting together with, among others, his brother Wladimir. The latter points out that they expect an escalation in northern Ukraine from Belarus.
– It is important not to hesitate to give us the weapons we so desperately need, but rather deliver them quickly. Otherwise, we will lose more infrastructure and most importantly – our best men, says Wladimir.
