Can Chickenpox Patients Take a Bath? Here Are the Conditions

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Head of the Tropical Disease Infection Coordination Work Unit of the Indonesian Pediatrician Association, Dr.

“When you have a fever, bathing is uncomfortable, because there is a period of feeling cold after bathing,” he said in a media seminar on the topic “Chicken Pox in Children” which was held online, Tuesday.

Apart from that, it is feared that bathing patients with fevers will actually increase their temperature, so once again doctors do not recommend bathing patients if they have a fever.

“Once the body reads it is cold, it turns out that the temperature is not high enough, the body will have a higher fever,” said Anggraini.

However, if the patient does not have a fever, then he can take a shower but make sure not to break out the chickenpox because this could risk causing infection.

The skin actually contains germs and bathing helps prevent bacteria or germs from infecting the broken chicken pox and ultimately causing scars or pockmarks. On the other hand, bathing can make patients comfortable.

“When bathing, don’t rub it, because if it breaks, that’s where germs can enter, because our skin is a stronghold for germs. If we rub, if we break the skin, all the germs will enter,” explained Anggraini.

When bathing, patients can use soap, then pay attention when drying the body so as not to rub too hard.

Then, they can apply lotion or liquid powder after bathing because it helps the skin feel comfortable and reduces the possibility of smallpox breaking easily when rubbed.

Chickenpox is caused by the Varicella zoozter virus and is usually transmitted through breathing and direct contact with the lesions of an infected person.

Symptoms of chickenpox patients include fever, decreased appetite and nausea. They also generally have a small red rash on some parts of their body and it is itchy. This rash appears 10 to 21 days after exposure to the virus and usually lasts about five to 10 days.

For treatment, doctors usually prescribe medication to reduce the severity of chickenpox.
