After two years of pandemic, it is likely to be a real holiday on 17 May.

Right now, it also looks like the people of Bergen can celebrate National Day in sun and summer temperatures, according to meteorologist Ingmar Vikane.

– It is still a long way off, but according to the forecasts, a high pressure will build up next weekend, says Vikane, who works at Vervarslinga in Western Norway.

Last year, many people from Bergen celebrated May 17 on Byfjorden.

The start of a wet week

Temperatures can rise around the 20s.

– It can drop over 20 degrees as it looks now, says the meteorologist.

– If the forecast is correct, the Bergen area will be a nice place to be on 17 May. Sometimes we can get fog when the high pressure is in the east, but it can look like we get away this time, Vikane says.

But before the people of Bergen can enjoy the sun and high pressure, we have to go through a rough week. Monday will be almost as nice as Sunday. Then it’s over.

– Tuesday we get rain showers and southerly gales. The wind is strongest off the coast and decreases throughout the afternoon, says the meteorologist.

20 millimeters of rainfall

He estimates that there will be a total of 20 millimeters of precipitation during Tuesday.

The wet weather with rain showers continues on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

– On Friday there will be a new precipitation area and we can again get up to 15-20 millimeters of precipitation, Vikane says.

On Saturday, the maximum temperature drops to 8-10 degrees, before the weather eases in the afternoon.

– As it looks now, the high pressure will spread over large parts of southern Norway during Sunday and Monday, the meteorologist says.
