In a virtual discussion on Alzheimer’s Dementia on Monday (14/9), Dr. Astuti, Chair of the Neurobehavior Study of the Indonesian Neurologist Association (Perdossi) explained that there are at least 10 common symptoms of Alzheimer’s dementia that all people need to know. Here’s the description:
1. Impaired memory
According to Dr. Astuti, often forgetting about recent events, such as forgetting to store things and other things, are early symptoms of Alzheimer’s dementia. In addition, sufferers also often tell the same thing, always repeated.
2. Difficulty focusing
Patients usually find it difficult to do activities, daily work, forget how to cook, operate cell phones, cannot do simple calculations, so it is difficult to work longer than usual.
3. Difficult to do familiar activities
The next symptom of Alzheimer’s dementia, according to Dr. Astuti, is difficulty planning or completing daily tasks, such as confusion about how to drive or difficulty managing finances.
4. Disorientation
Disorientation in question, for example, confusion about time such as dates, important days, confused about where they are and how they got there, so they don’t know on the way back home.
5. Difficulty understanding spatial vision
Usually sufferers find it difficult to read, measure distances, distinguish colors, distinguish spoons or forks, do not recognize their own faces in the mirror, and pour water in a glass but it always spills.
6. Communication disorders
This disorder is characterized by difficulty speaking and finding polite words to describe objects. Sufferers also often stop in the middle of a conversation and are confused to continue.
7. Put things out of place
Usually, people with symptoms of Alzheimer’s dementia, often forget where to put things, sometimes even suspect someone is stealing or hiding them.
8. Wrong decision
Dressing mismatch, wearing different socks between the left and the right, not being able to take good care of oneself, and not understanding the amount of money that needs to be paid in transactions are among the symptoms of Alzheimer’s dementia.
9. Withdraw from the crowd
Not having the enthusiasm or initiative to do activities or hobbies that you usually enjoy, not always being excited to go socializing are also part of the symptoms of senility.
10. Changes in behavior and personality
Emotions change drastically to become confused, suspicious, afraid or overly dependent on family members, friends or the work environment.
