ROME (ITALPRESS) – Digitalisation, dematerialisation, telemedicine, artificial intelligence, big data can provide a strong impetus to improve efficiency in healthcare systems in a scenario of complex and rapidly evolving changes. Having timely access to the necessary information allows you to make decisions with greater awareness: to boost innovation in the healthcare sector, Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome and Intesa Sanpaolo they launched the Global Health Observatory supported by the European Commission and the Ministry of University and Research.
The Observatory will be directed by Professor Leandro Pecchia, full professor of Biomedical Engineering and President of the Master’s Degree Course of the same name at the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome and has the objective of encouraging the sustainable adoption of technological innovations for the reorganization of health services and help generate significant impact in the areas of health and well-being. At the beginning of 2025, the first study will be published on the possibilities of adopting technologies by the national healthcare system to support the creation of an Italian supply chain for innovation in the silver economy.
The project was presented in front of more than 800 students during the UCBM stage of Build Your Future, the meeting program created by Intesa Sanpaolo and created in collaboration with schools and universities, to involve 10,000 students from all over Italy and inspire them on the great transformative processes of society such as digitalisation, artificial intelligence, blue and space economy, life science and others.
Alongside the Observatory, a research laboratory coordinated by Professor Pecchia was launched with the aim of identifying the barriers that slow down the adoption of enabling technologies in the National Health System and involving companies, health agencies and businesses in the sector. The Laboratory will also have the role of incubator for actions such as the education and training of staff and the dissemination of research projects.
The Observatory and Laboratory involve six young researchers from Italy, Spain, Brazil, Ethiopia, Benin and the UK: a multidisciplinary team with doctors, engineers, economists, computer scientists and a philosopher expert in bioethics. The laboratory has already attracted important European funding for the design and development of new Proof of Concepts for Ebola, the greening of hospitals, the integration of treatments for cardiovascular patients by networking centers of excellence and territory, the growth of the culture of teaching based on research in African countries. The projects have a total value of over 20 million euros, of which approximately 20% from Italian partners.
“With Build your Future we are meeting young people throughout Italy to convey to them greater awareness of the social and economic impact of major global transformations and the skills necessary to face them – says Elisa Zscopio Marsala, Head of Education Ecosystem and Global Value Programs Intesa Sanpaolo -. Among these, life scientists have a particular role in a country that has to face the demographic challenges resulting from the aging of the population. Thanks to the close collaboration with the Campus Bio-Medico University, one of the best academic institutions for the integration of innovative teaching and scientific research, we have promoted an Observatory on global health with researchers from all over the world. Intesa Sanpaolo strongly believes in supporting research, valorising talent, international exchanges and attracting talent”.
“The birth of the Global Health Observatory and Laboratory that we created together with Intesa Sanpaolo represents, for the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome, a further step forward towards one of our main objectives – he comments
Andrea Rossi, CEO and General Director of the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome -: provide precise indications regarding the country’s health needs and initiate forms of study and experimentation of concrete solutions in favor of people’s well-being. The challenge is for everyone: doctors, engineers, biologists, nutritionists, healthcare managers and professionals in the field. We want to be protagonists of the great changes in healthcare systems like the Italian one, making an active contribution so that enabling technologies can support the efficient functioning of a public service that the whole world envies us and which still has room for improvement”.
The broader synergy with the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome is part of the commitment of Intesa Sanpaolo which, through the Education Ecosystem and Global Value Programs structure led by Elisa Zscopio Marsala, promotes – in line with the strategic agenda for EU research and the fourth Mission of the PNRR – collaborations with universities and schools through support for research, scholarships, teaching to promote educational inclusion, the valorization of merit, the attractiveness of universities and contribute to the economic and social growth of the territories and of the country.
Intesa Sanpaolo has promoted a permanent Observatory, Look4ward, which aims to identify the needs for new skills and from which it emerges that the professions of the future will be increasingly characterized by the fusion of vertical technical knowledge, transversal skills and relational skills.
In 2023 the Group led by Managing Director and CEO Carlo Messina involved over 2000 schools and universities, 4,000 are expected over the 2022-2025 Business Plan.
