DALLAS – The Mavericks confirmed on Tuesday the signing of Argentine playmaker Facundo Campazzo, former teammate of Luka Doncic at Real Madrid, and who adds another option in the distribution of the ball with the Dallas star.
The team made the announcement a day before the regular season opener in Phoenix, where Dallas overwhelmed the Suns in Round 2 Game 7 to reach the Western Conference Finals last season.
Campazzo, 31, became a free agent after playing his first two NBA seasons with Denver after a career in Europe and his native Argentina.
Campazzo and Doncic formed a dynamic pair of shooting guards at Real Madrid, vital for the Spanish club to be crowned EuroLeague champion in 2015 and 2018. Doncic was the most valuable player of the EuroLeague Final Four by winning the second title.
At 5.10 feet tall, Campazzo averaged 5.6 points and 3.5 assists in two seasons with the Nuggets. He started 23 of the 130 games.
Campazzo made his professional debut at the age of 17 in Argentina, twice becoming the best player in the local league finals. He has won four titles in five seasons.

He landed in Dallas just as they were trying to complete their rotation following the departure of point guard Jalen Brunson.
Brunson started as a substitute for Doncic but had a notable performance last season as the Slovenian star’s partner in the starting lineup. Brunson has signed with the New York Knicks in free agency.
Campazzo is the captain of the Argentine team, which last month won the gold medal at the FIBA AmeriCup tournament. He averages 12.3 points in the tournament.
