The Board from the Campania Region has approved the “Five-year regional program for the implementation of the priority strategic lines connected to the implementation of the National Oncology Plan. The plan includes a series of interventions aimed at improving the care of oncology patients“. The first point aims to improve the identification, evaluation of the genetic risk profile and management of subjects at high risk of hereditary-familial tumors. This will allow us to provide early diagnosis and timely treatment to patients, significantly improving their recovery prospects.
The initiative
“The approval of the plan is an initiative that is also the result of the work we have done in recent years Regional Councilis an important step forward to improve oncological care in our Region. Among the main objectives, that of promoting the timely care of people who have participated in screening, with suspected cancer. An approach that will ensure that patients receive immediate and coordinated care, reducing waiting times and improving clinical outcomes; the improvement of care through the reduction of administrative and bureaucratic aspects for the cancer patient and the caregiver aims to make the treatment path easier and less stressful, allowing patients to concentrate on their therapeutic path. Another important element of the plan, which is particularly close to my heart, is the use of molecular-targeted therapy to verify the appropriateness and clinical outcomes obtained with the use of genomic tests that will allow us to personalize treatments and increase the effectiveness of therapies, as well as optimize treatments; in fact, thanks to the use of genomic tests in Campania, 42% of women save chemotherapy”. He stated this Thomas PellegrinoGroup leader of Italy Alive in the Regional Council of Campania and medical director of general and oncological surgery at theUniversity Hospital “Federico II” of Naples.
The commitment
“The plan also includes the implementation of specific corporate projects to implement psycho-oncological pathways for the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of emotional distress. – added the Group Leader of Italia Viva – These projects will offer psychological or psychotherapeutic support (individual, couple, family) to patients with a new diagnosis of cancer, in particular for breast cancer, which is the most common cancer among women at a national and regional level. Finally – concluded Pellegrino – we are committed to ensuring effective communication through specific strategies identified by the Health Authorities, in collaboration with patient associations. All this to increase the level of knowledge of citizens on the access and care pathways of the Campania Oncology Network. We are proud of this important provision and will continue to work with dedication to improve the quality of care, even more so for patients affected by tumor pathologies”.
