Campaigning farmers want to deliver a ‘cry for help’ to King Willem-Alexander on 17 November

FDF announced yesterday that November 17 a new action day would be, but what that day would look like was not yet clear. Incidentally, the intended visit to the king is only part of the action. What the other part will look like will be announced tomorrow.

Code Orange

The farmers’ action group writes on the website that the king is’ our last hope ‘. She hopes with the action, dubbed Code Oranje, to prevent the king from eventually signing the cabinet’s new Environmental Act ‘and thereby sealing the fate of all farmers in the Netherlands’.

It is not clear how the farmers will try to reach the Dutch head of state on the day of action. They do, however, invite as many colleagues as possible to participate. “In the past year we have only called you in emergencies. This is another emergency, where we must prevent irreversible injustice.”

Buy-out scheme

Incidentally, on 17 November the farmers are not alone in making the much-discussed Environmental Act and the resulting nitrogen-reducing measures. They also want the professional prohibition in the new Purchase Regulation to be removed immediately. “This prohibition is in violation of our rights, arising from the EU Charter Fundamental Rights.”

The Purchase Scheme is intended for livestock farmers who live close to or in a protected Natura 2000 area. They can be bought out by the province and receive a one-off payment for this. In Article 6.3.a. of the regulation as published yesterday that a bought-out livestock farmer ‘will not establish or take over a livestock farm elsewhere in the Netherlands, not even through a participation of the livestock farmer in a company, partnership or otherwise’. According to farmers, this provision is contrary to EU rules.

In addition, Farmers Defense Force wants to bring their own Farmer Friendly quality mark to the attention on 17 November, for ‘a better position for Dutch food with a better price for the farmer and more appreciation’.
