Campaigners at six Dutch airports against pollution and nuisance

Province decides on closing Maastricht Aachen Airport

“Close the airport now!” activists shouted at Maastricht Aachen Airport early in the afternoon. They went a step further than the activists elsewhere in the Netherlands because the future of the South Limburg airport is extremely uncertain. Local residents complain about noise and odor nuisance and it is unclear how the nitrogen rules will work out.

The issue was on the agenda of the Provincial Council yesterday afternoon. But they did not come to a decision, reports 1Limburg† 22 speakers came forward who spent more than four hours in conversation with the members of parliament. Ultimately, the meeting was adjourned. Discussions will continue next week, and a decision will most likely be made at the beginning of June. Members of Parliament from GroenLinks and the Party for the Animals were present at the demonstration at the airport.
