Campaign aims to gather bicycles for families who cannot buy them – El Magallánico

At Christmas time, many works that begin to appear to help those most in need, and this year in particular, the economic situation has led many to see being able to buy a bicycle as a special gift as a distant wish. But an initiative has been born that aims to bring a smile to those who cannot afford one.

Héctor Vargas Ramírez, a forerunner of the campaign, commented that, given his work, he makes several trips to the municipal landfill, unfortunately finding that many people discard bicycles that are in good condition or that can be fully recoverable.

So I asked myself why not recover? Why not recycle? ” Thus it was that he began to gather disused bicycles, first with his friends, and little by little others close to him joined who began to collaborate in the restoration and repair of the bicycles that were arriving.

As the weeks went by, the campaign was getting stronger and stronger, anonymously adding neighbors from all sectors of Punta Arenas who, instead of throwing them away, decided to donate the bicycles that their children are no longer using.

“With this pandemic the situation is very complicated for everyone, I have six grandchildren, I know what I’m talking about, so if we can help each other we will all be much better, more at this time,” added the notable resident from Punta Arenas.

The incessant search for Héctor, his truck and all those who have joined his solidarity idea, has managed to gather and prepare a total of 150 bicycles “ready for delivery”, and they are working to prepare another batch of 100 more.

Those who wish to make a donation can contact the phone +56988274213, there is a deadline until December 15, but since the dates are so high, it is requested that the bicycles that are delivered are in good condition.

The gifts will be delivered to vulnerable families, for which it has been coordinated with neighborhood associations, social pot groups, and volunteers to create a list that allows an unforgettable present to be delivered to those who really need it.
