ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Rookie standout Junior Caminero hit a three-run homer, Jose Caballero drove in four runs and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the San Diego Padres 11-4 on Saturday.
Caminero homered off Randy Vasquez (4-7) on a four-run second inning to help Tampa Bay take a 5-2 lead. Baseball’s No. 1 rookie has three homers and seven RBIs in 17 Major League games.
Jake Cronenworth hit a two-run homer in the first inning and finished with three hits for the Padres, who now own the second wild-card spot in the National League playoffs. San Diego won 13-5 on Friday night in the first game of the three-game series.
Shane Baz (2-2) allowed two runs and two hits in five innings as the Rays won for the third time in nine games.
For the Rays, Dominicans Caminero went 1-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored, Christopher Morel went 2-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored, Jose Siri went 0-for-4 with a run scored. Panamanian Jose Caballero went 2-for-5 with four RBIs. Mexican Jonathan Aranda went 1-for-4 with a run scored.
For the Padres, Venezuelan Luis Arraez was 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored. Dominican Manny Machado was 1-for-4. Colombian Donovan Solano was 1-for-1.
