He defines himself as a creative person. He prefers not to be pigeonholed into a profession or facet. However, for her work in social networks, we can call her artist. Before even imagining that he would study this career, he turned painting into his vehicle for disconnection and expression, a hobby he shares with his father, Emilio Romero.

“My creative life started when I started painting, when I was about 5 years old, I think; And how my dad paints, then, he kind of pushed the creative side in me and my brothers. Later, at school, when I was about 15 or 16 years old, I took up painting again. Then I started taking photos, I tried different things in the artistic field, and from there everything went off. Then the love for makeup began, then for special effects makeup and now I’m tattooing, ”he says.

Camila is self-taught, she has not taken courses and her knowledge has been perfected with videos and her own initiative.

“I am 100% sure that my love of makeup started because they didn’t let me wear makeup when I was a teenager. My mom died when I was six years old. My dad remarried when I was 13. And I had a stepmother who didn’t like makeup, who liked everything more natural, and I grew up like in that environment where it was taboo to put on makeup. So, I grew up with that idea of ​​wanting to wear makeup, and they wouldn’t let me. My dad got divorced around the age of 18, and that’s when I started experimenting with makeup. I learned on YouTube, I never took any classes; I started with beauty, but later I wanted to explore with other proposals and, as I have always liked horror and scary things, I experimented more in that area. There he also went to the tip of YouTube, and while I watched television I practiced and perfected, ”says the 27-year-old artist.

Romero assures that it was difficult for her to find a professional to teach her about special effects makeup, because the film culture has only recently been moving in this area in recent years. “I feel like special effects makeup is pretty new, because if there is no demand for a scary movie, I have no demand for such a makeup artist. It was difficult to find it, and I feel that today there are a couple of people who teach and do courses, but I keep what I learned alone, “she says.

Each of the characters that you recreate with your makeup proposal can take between three and four hours depending, the simplest, on the complexity of the composition. “There are some that can take me ten hours. I take my breaks, order food, sometimes my boyfriend comes to accompany me. One day when I know I’m going to film, I just dedicate myself to that. Last year, we were going to film the intro to the video of The Exorcist and we went to eat at McDonald’s, and we were in line at the Automac and a man was so scared and all the friends laughed. I was dressed and made up with vomit and everything, ”she recalls about part of her work in these four years.

Although Camila no longer performs makeup on other people, because it takes more than four hours, on her YouTube channel and on her Instagram and TikTok accounts she has tutorials on how to do each one of them.

On his Instagram account (@camilaromerof) he uploads several photos and videos of the characters he has recreated with makeup. So far: The Joker, The Exorcist, the Hidden Lady, Bellatrix from Harry Potter, Harley Quinn, Cruella, Black Swan, among others.

She became a lawyer, a profession that most of her family pursues. “It is something 100% personal. I feel like I am a more creative person than just being a lawyer. I really like human rights, criminology. I feel like it goes hand in hand with my love of terror and international law; They are the areas of law that I liked the most ”, he says.

Camila has a alter ego. Camala is her tattooist pseudonym and she recently plans to open her own private tattoo studio. One of her friends, Estefanía Antúnez, who is also a tattoo artist, was her inspiration to start specializing in this branch and to start acquiring her equipment to dedicate herself to it. (I)
