The Colombian tennis player María Camila Osorio achieved a new victory this Thursday at the WTA 250 in Bogotá (Copa Colsanitas Zúrich 2024) after beating the Romanian Anca Todoni (no. 217 in the world ranking) in two sets (7-6 (4) and 6-4).

The first set of the match was close and the Cucuteña had to win the set in the tie break. Already in the second round he knew how to take care of his serve and broke at the right moment to qualify for the quarterfinals.

Osorio is one of the favorites in this edition of the Colsanitas Cup, since in 2021 she won the title. That is the only WTA trophy she has won to date. Her rival in the next round will be the winner of the clash between the Argentine Julia Riera and the current two-time champion of the competition, the German Tatjana Maria.

The tennis player from Cucuta, number 85 in the world, is Colombia’s only hope to win the trophy, since Emiliana Arango, the other national figure who was in competition, was eliminated in the first round of the competition.

Once their participation in the Colsanitas Cup concludes, Osorio and Arango will focus on the Colombian women’s team to participate in the Billie Jean King Cup. The appointment is at Club Los Lagartos, in the north of Bogotá.
