“All stories have an end, no matter how good they are. And my story with the Cameroon national team is over. Players come and go, but Cameroon is more important than individuals or players. Cameroon lasts forever, just like my love for the national team and for our people,” wrote Onana on Instagram.
Onana featured in Cameroon’s World Cup opener against Switzerland (0-1 loss). It was his 34th – and probably last – international.
Shortly before in the second match against Serbia it became known that the Inter star was eliminated from the squad. What happened is not clear, but according to media reports, he ended up in conflict with the management of the national team.
Cameroon has announced that Onana has been “suspended until further notice” and has chosen to fly home from Qatar.
Cameroon was eliminated in the group stage of the World Cup.
