Strike of Football Referees in Cameroon: Demands and Persistent Unpaid Payments :: Cameroon

Referees of the Central regional football league launched a strike, taking the entrance to the CCC hostage. This spectacular action follows their growing frustration over late payment of their emoluments for two consecutive seasons.

These referees, who have officiated during the last two seasons of the Cameroon Cup, since the preliminary rounds, are faced with persistent unpaid wages, exacerbating their discontent. The new strongman of Tsinga, in place for some time, has not honored the payment of their salaries, thus inciting this protest to demand the settlement of their arrears.

It is deplorable to note that not only the referees of the Cameroon Cup have not been paid for their work, but also that the majority of the regional championship remains unpaid, encompassing 5 days out of 14, not counting the play-offs. Down and Up.

This delicate situation raises a glaring irony since while the referees live in financial precarity, Fecafoot employees benefit from considerable salaries. It should be noted that, when they took office, the current management of Fecafoot affirmed that financial resources should be allocated mainly to players and not to individuals occupying administrative positions.

The anger of the referees of the regional football league of the Center is no exception in the current context, since the departmental leagues are also planning an upcoming demonstration to express their own demands.

This collective mobilization demonstrates widespread dissatisfaction with the management of finances within Fecafoot, highlighting the blatant inequalities in the treatment of employees and football stakeholders in Cameroon. The referees’ strike and upcoming planned actions highlight the urgency of financial reform to ensure fair treatment and recognition of the work of all those involved in the world of football in Cameroon.
