Cameroon Appoints Brigadier General Ndjongkep Meyomhy Fredric as Inspector General of the Armed Forces

In a ceremony held October 22, 2024, Cameroon’s Brigadier General Ndjongkep Meyomhy Fredric officially took on the mantle of Inspector General of the Armed Forces. The appointment, enshrined in Presidential Decree No. 2024/428, marks a significant moment in General Fredric’s illustrious career, which spans over three decades.

The installation ceremony, held at the Ministry of Defense, was a testament to the high regard in which General Fredric is held. Minister of Defense Joseph Beti Assomo presided over the event, which saw attendance from a distinguished group including State Secretary Yves Landry Etoga, Secretary of State for Veterans and War Victims Koumpa Issa, and numerous other military dignitaries, family, and friends.

Minister Beti Assomo praised General Fredric’s distinguished career, highlighting his exceptional leadership and dedication to the Cameroonian military. "Brigadier General Ndjongkep Meyomhy Fredric, aged 64, comes from the promotion of 1986 on the EMIA, promotion named ‘Samhain 06, 1982’," the Minister stated.

General Fredric’s journey began in 1988 when he served as Assistant Officer in the 121st Motorized Infantry Company in Bertoua. Over the years, he has held numerous key positions, showcasing his versatility and expertise. He commanded infantry companies and battalions, served as Head of State – Major Command and Support Battalion No. 3, and contributed significantly to training future generations of soldiers as a lecturer and instructor at the Higher Military Education Department of the EMIA.

"On 17 April 2009, he was appointed Commander of the 51st Motorized Infantry Battalion in Ngaoundéré, before being promoted a year later to Chief of Military Operations at the Army General Staff on 3 June 2010," Minister Beti Assomo recounted. General Fredric’s leadership prowess ultimately led to his appointment as Commander of Military Division No. 3 in 2015, a role he held before moving on to head the fourth Military Joint Division in 2017.

General Fredric’s commitment to excellence extends beyond Cameroon’s borders. He has completed several United Nations peacekeeping training courses, demonstrating a commitment to global security.

Addressing General Fredric directly, Minister Beti Assomo stressed the importance of his new role. "I invite you the provisions of Decree No. 2001/177 of July 25 incorporated and applicable. 2001 organizing the Ministry of Defense especially its articles 16, 17, 18, and 19 clearly deal with your duties…" He further explained, " In addition, it should be remembered that the Inspector General of the Armed Forces will carry out inspection missions on the basis of a program previously approved by the Minister. These missions are carried out either through traditional inspections or through one-off or unannounced inspections if necessary on specific, detailed or one-off issues."

The ceremony served as a powerful symbol of Cameroon’s commitment to maintaining a strong and vigilant military force. General Fredric’s appointment signifies a new chapter for the Cameroonian Armed Forces, and his expertise and dedication are expected to guide them into the future.
