This social network has 5.05 million users in the country at the start of 2024, or almost half the number of Cameroonians present on social media.
As of January 2024, there are 5.04 billion active social media users worldwide, or 62.3% of the world’s population. This number has increased by 266 million over the past year, according to the global digital report published by creative agency We Are Social and Melwater.
In Cameroon, the number of Internet users in the country during the same period stood at 12.63 million. An increase of 2.6% for 325,000 new Internet users over the last 12 months. More than half of social media users are men (58.6%), compared to 41.4% for women. The document also indicates that Facebook is the most used platform in Cameroon. This social network belonging to META had 5.05 million users in the country at the start of 2024. Facebook users thus represent 17.4% of the total population of Cameroon estimated at 29.02 million at that date. The figure is also up by +1.5 million compared to 2023. Which represents annual growth of 40.3%.
The data in this report reinforces those published at the end of last year by the media Intelligence firm. This firm announced that advertisers now rely on Facebook, which turns out to be the social network with the most subscribers. This platform also concentrates 85.1% of traffic on social networks while we note barely 6% for Pinterest which comes in second position followed by Twitter, indicated Media Intelligence.
