At a press conference this Friday, on the eve of the clash against Nigeria in the round of 16 of CAN 2023, Cameroonian coach, Rigobert Song, assured that the Indomitable Lions are ready to do battle with the Super Eagles.

Qualified for the knockout stages, Nigeria and Cameroon will face each other this Saturday, in the round of 16 of CAN 2023. A classic between two giants of African football, who have already crossed paths three times in the CAN final (for three Cameroonian coronations in 1984, 1988 and 2000). However, it is Nigeria which won the last confrontation played at the CAN in 2019 (3-2, it was already in the round of 16) and which presents itself as favorite. But watch out for this Cameroon who has come a long way and who qualified in the 91st minute of the last day.

Facing journalists this Friday at a pre-match press conference, coach Rigobert Song assured that the Indomitable Lions are ready to achieve victory against the Super Eagles. “It’s true that it (Nigeria, editor’s note) is a very good team… We have already met several times, it has not always been easy, we know that well, there are statistics which show are talking, and today I think that it is a team to be taken seriously, very seriously even, and perhaps, as you say, perhaps when we play a team which seems to being serious is where we too try to be serious. What I know is that my players are ready, they know what they have to do and what it takes.”declared the former central defender, confidently.

The 47-year-old coach also spoke about the management of goalkeepers for this CAN 2023, with André Onana who was left on the bench in favor of Fabrice Ondoa during the last group match against Gambia, generating some tensions in the den Lions.

“It’s true that Cameroon has always had great goalkeepers. At the time, there was Thomas Ngono, Antoine Bell. Today, it’s shared. (André Onana and Fabrice Ondoa) They are very good goalkeepers, I have no problem with my goalkeepers. All my goalies are competitive. In addition I came with 27 players and all 27 are present and ready to respond. (…) There is no controversy to be had between these goalkeepers, they get along very well and all 27 players have the opportunity to show what they are capable of”he concluded.
