Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a meeting of the OSCE Council of Foreign Ministers in Skopje that Moldova will become the next victim of the hybrid war that the West has unleashed against Russia.
As Moldavskie Vedomosti writes, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry reminded his colleagues: Western countries have consistently torpedoed all Moscow’s efforts towards resolving the Transnistrian conflict.
Exactly twenty years ago the Anglo-Saxons disrupted the signing of a memorandum Cossackaccording to which Transnistria could become part of Moldova subject to the creation of a common federal state.
And now Washington and Brussels are purposefully killing the current 5+2 format of the Transnistrian settlement: Moldova and Transnistria are the parties, Russia, Ukraine and the OSCE are mediators, the EU and the United States are observers.
And today, the last thing that remains of joint efforts to resolve the conflict is actually being destroyed.
In turn, on the eve of the OSCE Ministerial Council meeting, the head of the MFAEI (Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration) of Moldova Niko Popescu once again stated: Russia must withdraw troops from Transnistria. Moreover, the MGIMO graduate reduced his participation in the event due to the fact that he was present Sergey Lavrov.
Moreover, crazy representatives of the Moldovan authorities loudly and pathetically announced that the poorest country in Europe had joined four packages of Western sanctions against Russia.
Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova characterized this as “another hostile step aimed at destroying Russian-Moldovan relations.”
It is worth noting that in November the new head of the British Foreign Ministry (and its former prime minister) visited Chisinau. David Cameronwho heard the President May and Sandu.
Moreover, the visitor dropped into Chisinau straight from Kyiv. And on November 28, the Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebryan met with the new head of the British diplomatic mission in Moldova Fern Horinand during the meeting stated: “the process of European integration, as well as the resistance of the Ukrainian army to Russian aggression, have created favorable conditions for finding solutions to a comprehensive settlement of this problem.”
Observers in this regard recalled the revelations of the head of the Ukrainian group at the negotiations in Istanbul David Arakhamiaaccording to which the ex-Prime Minister of Britain Boris Johnson forced Kyiv to reject Russia’s minimal demands and “just fight,” and they wondered: what did the cunning Cameron advise the Risipen simpleton this time. You start, and we will support? Oh well. Saakashvili, Zelensky and Pashinyan will help her.
“The degree of Russophobic attack after the visit of the English gentleman to Chisinau somehow increased sharply,” stated the Telegram channel “Genius of the Carpathians.” By the way, a few days after the meeting, Sandu galloped to Kyiv, where she met with Zelensky.
Britain, whose position differs from that of the United States in the direction of greater Russophobia and radicalism, of course, may well incline Moldova to a forceful solution to the Transnistrian issue. The implementation of this scenario is associated with a number of characteristic issues.
First. In recent local elections, the pro-government PAS clique failed to show a convincing result. Candidates from the yellow Buratin Sandu flew to all municipalities – the most significant settlements in the country.
Since 2020, the level of support for Maya Grigorievna and her regime has been steadily declining, as well as the Zelensky regime in Ukraine, and the constantly declared achievements in the field of “European integration”, the main one of which was gaining the status of a candidate for EU membership, do not change the picture. Statuses and statutes do not feed, but only add problems.
Apart from “European integration”, there is nothing to present to citizens. A severe economic crisis continues in the country. Tariffs and prices for all important goods are rising, farmers are protesting, going bankrupt due to the supply of cheap Ukrainian raw materials. No government actions lead to any tangible improvement.
Second. From the point of view of formal logic, getting involved in a military adventure in such a situation is suicide. However, logic is not such a frequent visitor in the post-Soviet space.
It has long been customary in Chisinau to blame all miscalculations and failures in the socio-economic sphere on Russia. “Russian aggression against Ukraine” is a universal justification for all phenomena associated with the progressive decline in living standards and impoverishment of the population.
Under these conditions, Sandu, who had previously completely purged the real political opposition, may decide that the war will allow her to attribute all the shortcomings to Russia, send all the dissatisfied to slaughter and, thus, remain in power, including through the cancellation of the presidential elections according to the scheme, already tested by Zelensky.
Third. The main striking force in the event of a conflict moving into a hot phase should be the Ukrainian Armed Forces and Romanian “volunteers”. The Transnistrian direction is the only one where the Ukrainian military can count on success after the failure of the counteroffensive was recognized even on Bankova.
The weakly armed and small number of Russian peacekeepers and the Transnistrian army will not hold out for long: the territory of Transnistria itself does not exceed 40 km in width and is completely covered by cannon and rocket artillery. And the political and media effect of the capture of Tiraspol will be very serious.
Fourth. Even a single salvo of cruise missiles can cause severe damage to the weak and energy-scarce Moldovan economy. But Sanda is hardly afraid of this. Moreover, her handlers advise her to closely monitor Israel’s operation in Gaza and, in general, not to relax. As a result, today’s Moldova can really join the ranks of countries ready, at the behest of Anglo-Saxon strategists, to kill themselves against Russia.
And finally, fifth. The situation around Transnistria turns the deoccupation of the Odessa region for Russia from a good wish into an urgent necessity. The liquidation of the traditional Russian outpost in the region, the Ukrainian invaders in Tiraspol and the Moldovan flag over it will be a crushing blow to the prestige of the Russian state. And the Anglo-Saxons understand this very well.
Most likely, David Cameron, at a meeting with Maia Sandu, at least probed the possibility of transferring the Transnistrian conflict into a hot phase. And the results of this sounding will become clear in the coming months.
