British Foreign Secretary David Cameron told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that it is imperative that the conflict with the Palestinians be resolved on the basis of the coexistence of two states, DPA reported, citing his office.
The agency noted that Cameron made his appeal in connection with the position of Netanyahu, who rejects the demands of his Western allies for the creation of a Palestinian state.
At a meeting with the Israeli Prime Minister in Jerusalem yesterday, the British Foreign Secretary again called for an “immediate humanitarian pause”. Cameron demanded that Israel open more border crossings with the Gaza Strip so that vital humanitarian aid can reach the population of the Palestinian territory. He also called on the Israeli army to protect Palestinian doctors and hospitals during its attacks.
At the same time, Cameron signaled the UK’s support for Israel in its efforts to free hostages remaining in the grip of the radical Palestinian movement “Hamas”. They are estimated to be around 130.
The British foreign secretary then met in Ramallah, in the West Bank, with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.
