British Foreign Secretary David Cameron’s attempt during a visit to the United States to convince former President Donald Trump to allow the US Congress to provide Ukraine with military aid in the amount of $60 billion appears to have failed.
As reported by Ukrinform, it is reported The Guardian.
According to the Guardian, the British minister was not even allowed to meet with the speaker of the US Congress, Mike Johnson, who could theoretically bring a bill with funds to support Ukraine to a vote.
During a private dinner at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, Cameron called on Trump to recognize that it was in the US’s best interest that Vladimir Putin not receive a “reward” for land grabs in Ukraine.

As noted, Cameron warned: “Future generations can look back at us and ask: did we do enough when this country (Ukraine – ed.) was invaded by a dictator who tried to change the borders by force? Have we learned the lessons of history? And is enough we did?”
At a joint press conference, Cameron and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken repeated their calls to Congress to unblock aid to Kyiv. Cameron insisted that he had not come to the US to “lecture” or meddle in domestic American politics, but said he was willing to forego “diplomatic rhetoric” because he was very emotional about the fact that the US and Europe must unite to protect Ukraine from Russian aggression.

However, Cameron’s arguments — both rational and emotional — appear to have run afoul of a power struggle within the Republican Party, the Guardian notes.
Radical Republicans who oppose aid to Ukraine continue to threaten Johnson with resignation if he brings the aid bill to a vote.
Trump’s campaign team said the dinner with Cameron discussed issues such as the upcoming US and UK elections, political issues surrounding Brexit, the need for NATO countries to meet their defense spending commitments, and “stopping the killing in Ukraine”.
As reported by Ukrinform, during his visit to Washington, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Great Britain David Cameron met with the ex-president of the USA Republican Donald Trump to discuss the issue of support for Ukraine.
