Cameron MacKay, new Canadian ambassador to Mexico

Diplomat Cameron MacKay was appointed as Canada’s new ambassador to Mexico, replacing Graeme C. Clark, Justin Trudeau’s government announced this Friday.

The appointment was made public by Mélanie Joly, Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Cameron MacKay joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of his country in 1995, according to information from the Canadian embassy. At headquarters, he has been director of Regional Trade Policy, director general of China Trade Policy, director general of the Trade Negotiations Office and director general of the Trade Sectors Office.

He has also been director of operations for the Foreign and Defense Policy Secretariat of the Privy Council Office.

Abroad, he has worked at the Permanent Mission of Canada to the World Trade Organization in Geneva and has been ambassador to Costa Rica, Honduras and Nicaragua and to Indonesia and East Timor. Most recently, he was High Commissioner to India and ambassador to Bhutan and Nepal.
