Cameron County reported one coronavirus-related death and 18 new cases of the disease on Tuesday.
The only death was an unvaccinated Harlingen woman older than 90, according to a report released by the Cameron County Department of Public Health. The total number of COVID-related deaths in Cameron County now stands at 2,012.
The county also reported 16 new positive infections in the county. Of the 16 reported cases, none were in shelters and detention centers for unaccompanied minors.
Since the pandemic began, the county has reported 54,112 COVID-19 cases.
A total of 50,990 people have recovered from the virus in the county, according to the news release.
Vaccination efforts continue throughout Cameron County; Currently, 76.13% of the population, aged five years and over, is fully vaccinated.
