Families living with a corona infection are quarantined at the earliest eleven days after the onset of the disease.

VG created confusion around the quarantine rules, when we on Wednesday wrote about the Høiland Nyborg family, who must spend Christmas Eve in isolation at home in Stavanger.
– If we test negatively on the second day of Christmas, when seven days have passed, we are «good to go», said Anny Merethe Høiland Nyborg (35) to VG – but that is not true at all.
For the regulations says eleven days, as Stavanger municipality states on its website:
“If you live with one or more people who are positive and you are unable to live separately (for example, families with small children), you can test yourself to end the quarantine no earlier than 11 days after the onset of illness in the last patient in the family.”
– Good we found out
Mai Elina (11) tested positive on Monday 20 December. The same day, the family went into isolation with her. They stay at home and have no contact with outsiders.
– We thought we could test ourselves out after seven days, but that was wrong. It was good we found out, says Anny Merethe Høiland Nyborg, who is the mother of Mai Elina.
She took VG’s quarantine calculator and found that the family is first out of the infection quarantine on New Year’s Eve, provided that their corona tests are negative.
– If it’s like that, that’s what we have to do. There is a lot of different information out there. Something says something, then you read something else. I’m confused, admits the tree grandmother in Stavanger.
–At least four plus seven days
Health Norway writes about household members living with an infected person:
“If you can not keep enough distance, you should start counting 10 days in the quarantine quarantine, when the person you live with has been 4 days in isolation.
This means that the total quarantine period is 14 days.
You should take a coronal test after 11 days (4 + 7) and end the quarantine infection, if it is negative. “

Henning Kulander (43) in Sandefjord was surprised that the counting of seven quarantine days does not start until four days after the infected went into isolation.
– Longer than we had thought
– It came as a shock. We must be quarantined further out during the Christmas holidays than we had thought, says the father of two in Sandefjord to VG.
The son Thor (6) tested positive on Friday, the sister Sofia (8) the next day.
– We knew there was a great chance that it would happen, because there has long been infection at school. Therefore, we took the children out to buy gifts in early December, says Kulander.
He says there were a lot of misunderstandings at school about quarantine, when the infection broke out.
– I understand well it was confusion, says Kulander.
Thor was out of isolation on Wednesday, while Sofia is out on Christmas Eve. The family as such is first out of the infection quarantine on December 29, if they test negative after 11 days.
