Cambodia with uneven progress in vaccination campaign against Covid-19 – Prensa Latina

Phnom Penh, Mar 14 (Prensa Latina) The vaccination campaign against Covid-19 today shows uneven progress in Cambodia, where only four active cases and no new infections are currently registered.

While more than 14 million 645 thousand people received up to the second dose of the immunogen, only 303 thousand attended to date to receive the sixth injection, detailed a report by the Khmer Times newspaper.

The fifth dose was already administered to just over 1,745 citizens and the fourth to almost 5,125,000, the publication added, revealing that, according to a random street survey, people’s apathy and lack of confidence in the need of the campaign seem to be what motivates these great differences.

Other respondents stated that they were unaware of the continuity of the immunization process, despite the fact that the Ministry of Health installed vaccination centers in areas where many people converge, such as pagodas and other public areas.

The newspaper recalled that, according to statistics from the World Health Organization, between February 6 and March 5, almost 4.5 million new cases and 32,000 deaths were reported in the world, while the totals since the beginning of the pandemic exceed 759 million patients and more than 6.8 million deaths.

In the case of Cambodia, and according to the report offered yesterday by the health portfolio, there were no new infections to date, four cases remain active and a total of 138,700 infected with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus and three thousand 056 deaths from the scourge of the disease.

The Kingdom proclaimed itself a territory free of Covid-19 on November 11, after recovering the only two active cases existing at the time, but weeks later it detected other infected again, although in extremely low numbers so far.
