The girl lives in Prey Veng Province. South of the country next to Vietnam. He was ill on Feb. 16 and was sent to a hospital in Phnom Penh for treatment. But he was diagnosed on Wednesday with a fever of up to 39 degrees Celsius, cough and sore throat.
However, the medical team could not save the girl’s life. and died soon after.
Health officials have taken samples from the dead wild birds at a conservation area near the girl’s home for examination. And warned villagers not to touch sick or dead birds and poultry.
Mam Boonheng warned that bird flu poses a high risk to children who come into close contact with poultry. Be it feeding, collecting eggs, playing or cleaning their cages.
Between 2003 and 2014, Cambodia reported 56 cases of avian influenza, with 37 deaths, according to the World Health Organization, while globally there have been 870 cases and 457 deaths in 21 countries.
