We continue with the news and new releases that are not few and are accumulating in this more than interesting beginning of the year. Today they premiere here (they already did in Wild Creatures at the end of 2020) the quintet from Asheville, North Carolina, CAM GIRL. Today the band is made up of two transsexual women, another component of indeterminate sex (non binary sex) and two more guys whose names I don’t have at the moment.
The project was born precisely in the fateful 2020 of the collaboration and composition of songs between Lily Larceny, singer of the band and ‘sex worker’ (with a criminal record as she herself was in charge of confessing to me at the time) and the guitarist Ethan Martin, to who are adding colleagues from the transgender scene and friends wanting to rock dirty. Their main classical influences are KISS, AC/DC and New York Dolls but the Scandinavian streak they have is tremendous and they boast of being die hard fans of Turbonegro and Hellacopters and belonging to the Turbojugend in body and soul. Action Rock with a Sleazy Glam Punk attitude that they show on their debut EP with three whiplashes, Always Wear Protection (2020)…
But we already had news and new movements at the end of last 2022 with explosive new singles under our arms. In April the first one dropped, “Teenage Vampire”, hard rock & high energy from the sewer and giving off self-confidence and electricity in abundance with a much improved production compared to his Opera Prima. In November they surprise with their most ‘elaborate’ track, “Pussy Strikes Back” sounds like a festive punk rocker, boasts the best vocal melody, voice play and chorus that they have ever billed and goes in like a cannon. Let’s go with the last and true reason for this post. On December 30th they present us in our heads with “Stroke Of 12”, another pill of their best vintage, with a super addictive riff, dirty and unbridled phrasing perfect to be sung in the most dangerous and drunken clubs and a brutal electrifying energy with a absolutely spectacular production. Having come this far, I just have to tell you to keep track of it because, according to what Lily has ‘told’ me about in recent days, ‘The best is yet to come…’.
