Second contract extension before the first game of the new year: The opponent is Krefeld
Defender Calvin Pokorny has extended his contract with the second division ice hockey team EHC Freiburg early. The 24-year-old will also lace up his skates on Ensisheimer Straße next season. On Tuesday evening, the EHC welcomes the Krefeld Penguine, relegated from the first division, to the Echte Helden Arena.
The defender, who can also shine in attack, has played in Ravensburg, Kaufbeuren and Bietigheim in Breisgau. Last season he had already scored 19 points in 45 games. This season there are already 19 goals or assists after 22 games. Peter Salmik, sporting director of EHC Freiburg, is equally satisfied with the personnel: “With his unpredictable style of play, he gives our game that certain something. In addition, he is finding his way better and better in his role as a defender without losing his goal threat and attacking qualities.”
Pokorny himself feels comfortable with Wolves, as he points out: “Freiburg and Wolves have become my second home. I feel incredibly comfortable in the city and in the club and I really enjoy the family environment. I get skin goose bump at every game and I’m happy to be able to play in front of these great fans and this unique atmosphere, which is why I didn’t have to think twice about extending my contract at this time.” In addition to Pokorny, import player Shawn O’Donnell also extended his contract early.
