The man in his twenties suspected of having killed his companion Thursday in Cabourg (Calvados) was indicted for “murder”, announced this Saturday Amélie Cladière, public prosecutor of Caen.
His pre-trial detention was requested by the prosecution.
According to the prosecutor, the hearings of the respondent revealed the hypothesis of an “accidental death, following the handling of a loaded firearm”. “This version cannot be excluded at this stage, but the prosecution considers that there are currently sufficient charges to retain, in the state of the case, a voluntary act,” she explained.
“It will be up to the investigating magistrate now seized to conduct the technical investigations and gather the evidence to reach the manifestation of the truth,” she said.

The man is “already known to the police and the judiciary, in particular in the context of drug consumption and incidents against the police”.
Within the couple, “the existence of possible previous incidents is still being verified but have not been found for the moment neither complaints nor handbooks”, added Mrs. Cladière.
The man presented himself to the police on Thursday morning and was taken into police custody. The body of the woman, aged about thirty, was found in a hotel in Cabourg where the couple lived.
Ninety women were killed by their spouses or ex-spouses in 2020, according to the Chancellery.
