Calls social security to take care of ear health | Tlaxcala Synthesis

The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) calls on the general population to maintain ear care in daily life to prevent hearing loss and deafness, such as not self-medicating, avoiding the use of headphones at high volume and any blow that may involve the head.

On National Day of the Deaf, Aralia Gutiérrez Márquez, a specialist in Audiology, said that deafness can be congenital or occur as a result of age, constant exposure to excessive noise, trauma, infections, self-medication or derived from other diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, neurological or tumors.

“We must be very attentive to situations such as having the presence of pain, a ringing that is new or appears suddenly. If we have a respiratory problem and we notice a change in hearing, a feeling of stuffiness or problems hearing from one day to the next and if the symptom lasts more than 24 hours, it is important to seek specialized care,” he emphasized.

The specialist recalled that the eligible population who detects any of these symptoms can go to their Family Medicine Unit (UMF) to be referred to a unit with an Audiology service, where they will undergo a complete audiological study, middle ear and hearing tests. nerve, among others.

He indicated that among the most frequent damages that the ear can have are infections or obstructions due to wax in its external part; inflammation and hardening of the bones of the middle ear and more severe infections in the inner part.

“The management of hearing loss or deafness as such has to be comprehensive by a multidisciplinary team; the Mexican Social Security Institute has all the specialties that allow us to approach the patient in a comprehensive manner.
