ISLAMABAD – Pakistan summoned the United States (US) Ambassador to the country following President Joe Biden’s statement that he doubted the safety of the country’s nuclear arsenal.

Speaking at a Democratic fundraiser in Los Angeles on Thursday, Biden said Pakistan is one of the most dangerous countries in the world because it possesses nuclear weapons without any cohesion, according to a transcript of the White House speech.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also responded to Biden’s comments.

“Pakistan is a responsible nuclear nation and we are proud that our nuclear resources are best protected under IAEA requirements,” Sharif tweeted, referring to the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Pakistani Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari said he was stunned by Biden’s remarks and, after speaking with Sharif, they summoned US Ambassador Donald Blome to the Pakistan Foreign Ministry.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference in Karachi, Pakistan’s largest city, Bhutto-Zardari reiterated Sharif’s remarks on his country’s nuclear security situation.

“We all comply with all international standards according to the IAEA,” said Bhutto-Zardari.
