It has long been said that bat meat can cure diseases such as asthma. Eating bat meat is also said to cure allergies and speed up wound healing.

However, this assumption has not been scientifically proven. Several studies have even found evidence that bat meat actually carries disease. One of them is the Marburg virus which is now being found again in Africa.

The World Health Organization or WHO reports a case of Marburg virus disease, which is highly contagious and deadly, in Guinea, Africa. This is the first such incident since 2017.

Although it has been proven to cause various health problems, many still think that bat meat can be a medicine.

1. Trusted as an asthma drug

There is not much scientific evidence that actually states the benefits of consuming bat meat, including the issue of asthma drugs. From a number of existing studies, bats are actually a source of infectious diseases.

More than 70% of infectious diseases originate from animals, as zoonotic pathogens, one of which is bats. Eating bat meat has the potential to pose health hazards.

Reporting from MayoClinic (14/8) bat meat contains ketotifen which is believed to help launch the respiratory system. Unfortunately there is no scientific research that proves and fully explains the content of ketotifen in bat meat and its relationship with asthma.

Ketotifen is one of the medications commonly used to relieve asthma symptoms and prevent asthma attacks. But you should not eat bat meat as an alternative to asthma medication.
