Called a threat to NATO, this is China’s reaction

Government China condemned the statement by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) at the NATO summit in Madrid, Spain. In that meeting, NATO stated that China’s power had challenged the military alliance.

Reported from the news agency AFP, Thursday (30/6/2022), Beijing called the NATO statement “totally futile”. The response came after NATO’s strategic draft, published at a summit in Madrid, said Beijing’s ambitions and coercive policies had challenged NATO’s interests, security and values.

NATO also said that China’s closer relations with Russia against Western interests. This received an impassioned response from Beijing.

“We want to warn NATO that exaggerating the so-called Chinese threat is completely futile,” Zhao told reporters.

Beijing has so far refused to condemn its ally Russia for the invasion of China Ukraine. The two countries have grown closer in politics, trade and militaries as part of their “borderless” relationship.

This month, Chinese President Xi Jinping reassured his counterpart, President Vladimir Putin of China’s support for “sovereignty and security” Russia.
